Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has revealed a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing 30,000 scholarships to exceptionally talented students throughout the province. This effort is part of the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, designed to support and empower students in their pursuit of education and skill development. This financial aid for students’ education is for four to five years.
Honhaar Undergraduate Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Possess a domicile from any district within Punjab.
- Be no older than 22 years by the application deadline.
- Have a family income of less than Rs 300,000 per month (an affidavit is required).
- Be enrolled in approved programs at designated universities or colleges for the fall 2024 session.
- Newly admitted MBBS and BDS students for 2024 are also qualified.
Universities & Programs
The initiative is designed to assist students across 68 different fields of study and is supported by a budget of Rs130 billion. As the registration deadline approaches, various universities have set up information desks to aid applicants in the process. The scholarships will fund four to five years of education for students attending 50 public sector universities in Punjab.
Scholarship Qualification Requirements
Eligibility will be determined based on academic achievements, with 30% of the evaluation based on matriculation scores and 70% on intermediate scores. Applicants must be residents of Punjab, aged 22 or younger, and have a family income below Rs300,000. The program is also available for MBBS and BDS students. Online applications can be submitted until October 18.
Enabling talented individuals
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the scholarships would be granted solely based on merit, focusing on providing higher education opportunities to deserving students who may not have the financial means to pursue their academic goals. She underscored the significance of this initiative in enabling talented individuals from less privileged backgrounds to access quality education, which can ultimately transform their futures.

Support for Underprivileged
In her statement commemorating World Poverty Eradication Day, she further highlighted the necessity of extending support to underprivileged communities. By investing in education and skills development, we can create a more equitable society. Maryam Nawaz reiterated that empowering these communities is essential for fostering a stronger, more resilient society, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and contribute positively to the nation’s progress.
Minimum Marks
Academic performance is a crucial aspect, with minimum marks established as follows:
- Medical Colleges: Above 80%
- Top Universities: Above 80%
- Public Sector Universities: 75% for Science and 70% for Arts and Social Sciences
- HED Colleges: 65% for Science and 60% for Arts and Social Sciences.
The Honhaar Scholarship Program will fully fund all tuition fees for recipients.

Applicants can submit their applications via the Honhaar Scholarship Portal at honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk. The application process includes:
- Create an account on the portal by entering your CNIC, institution name, and email address.
- Set up an account and remember your password for future access.
- Log in to fill out the application form, which requires personal details, educational history, and family information.
- Once completed, apply, and a confirmation email will be sent to your registered email address.
